U2 is a rock band from Dublin, Ireland. U2 consists of Bono (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), The Edge (lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion). In the early years of the 21st century, U2 have pursued a more traditional sound while maintaining influences from their previous musical explorations. U2 formed in Dublin, Ireland on 25 September 1976. On Saint Patrick's Day in 1978, U2 won a talent show in Limerick, Ireland. The prize consisted of £500 and funding to record a demo, which was an important milestone and affirmation for the fledgling band. Island Records signed U2 in March 1980, and "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" became the band's first internationally released single that May.
