The Crown Royal 400 is a NASCAR Nextel Cup stock car race held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. In 2007, the Crown Royal 400 will be named after the winner of an essay contest sponsored by Crown Royal. The Crown Royal 400 is currently held as a Saturday night event in early May. For several years, the Crown Royal 400 was held as a daytime event the weekend after the Daytona 500 in February. Consistent cold weather, and even a snow delay in 1989, prompted track officials to move the Crown Royal 400 later in the spring, eventually landing as a May race date by 1999.
