The B-52's is a New Wave rock band from Athens, Georgia. The B-52's were the first of many from the college town that has become one of the most important centers in alternative rock. The B52's formed after a drunken night at a Chinese restaurant and played their first gig at a Valentine's Day party for friends in 1977. Aside from their vocals, the B52's also had a unique New Wave sound that was a combination of dance and surf music and the unusual guitar-string tunings. The B52's music was very experimental and indulged in all manner of odd vocal and synthesizer effects. With its party vibe and colorful music video Love Shack not only became their first song to hit the US Top 40, but it went on to peak at #3. |
